CME

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program.


PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This activity is designed for surgeons, surgical residents, medical students as well as physicians, nurses and assisting healthcare providers. Upon completion of this course, attendees can be expected to:

Panel 1: Understand optimal surgical and endoscopic techniques while caring for obese patients with ventral hernias and GERD

Panel 2: Describe advances in the field of surgical oncology regarding treatment of patients with colorectal cancer metastatic to the liver

Tips and Tricks 1: Demonstrate the laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and explain the stepwise approach to this surgical technique.

Tips and Tricks 2: Compare treatments for anorectal disease such as banding versus alternative treatments for hemorrhoids and setons versus fistulotomy for anal fistula.

Scientific Sessions – Six abstract presentation sessions featuring 11 full presentations of 15 minutes, and 16 quick shot presentations of 8 minutes covering topics including…

Full and Quickshot Presentations I: Identify factors that influence outcomes during cardiothoracic and oncologic surgeries; and describe rural surgery practices that have been successful at recruiting and retaining general surgeons.

Full and Quickshot Presentations II: Analyze the impact of imaging studies and intraoperative histotripsy on outcomes in patients with breast and other cancers; and describe the impact of same day discharge in patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Full and Quickshot Presentations III: Describe advances in the management of complex trauma patients.
